Public safety is the cornerstone of any great city. Novi’s first responders put their lives on the line for our safety every single day, and it is essential that the next Mayor take actions to protect them on the job.
No Fire Station Unstaffed Every time a fire station sits empty, our community is put at risk. Novi families don’t keep smoke detectors without batteries, and our city should not have fire stations without firefighters. Having a fully staffed fire department doesn’t just keep us safe, it can help lower our residents’ insurance premiums. As Mayor, I will explore every option to increase fire department staffing and keep our city safe.
Mental Health as a Public Safety Issue The last few years have shown us that mental health is an issue which needs to be addressed for both our residents and our first responders. I would welcome and encourage any public/private partnership which would expand availability of services for our residents and first responders. As Mayor, I will support increased funding to the Novi Police Departmentin order to staff adequate on-call mental health professionals who can work with officers in responding to situations where a person is experiencing a mental health crisis.
